What is a holographic anti-counterfeit label ?

Holographic anti-counterfeiting label (in other words: 7-color/rainbow label) is an anti-counterfeiting label created by engraving and imaging technologies on the surface of objects. These images are reconstructed from 3D images that have been designed on specialized software. This 3D image consists of two or more images superimposed on each other so that each image is displayed alternately depending on different viewing angles. It reflects many colors, so the hologram label is called a 7-color label by Vietnamese people. The complexity of image depends on the type of device and the technology being used.

There are many hologram factories in the world with different equipment and production technology, so the quality and security are also different. Although the same security requirements on anti-counterfeiting labels, there are factories that can do it and there are factories that can’t. The higher security of the image, the higher equipment and technical requirements.

How many types of hologram anti-counterfeit labels are there ?

Types of hologram labels

Anti-counterfeiting technology on hologram labels is also constantly being improved and developed. There are different types of hologram anti-counterfeit labels with levels ranging from simple to complex:

Type 1: Conventional hologram labels

This is the first anti-counterfeit hologram label produced and has a long life. It has an eye-catching appearance when the light hits it. Under different viewing angles, the hologram label will reflect 7 different sparkles of the rainbow.

This type of label is still used by many companies. It is easy to manufacture, easy to use, and cheap, but it is easy to counterfeit because the technology used on the labels is extremely simple and common.

Type 2: 2D hologram labels

2D hologram labels have a hologram layer on the surface made up of a two-dimensional image layer. The images will have different colors and positions in the same layer. It has only one layer, so when looking at the label, we will feel that the image on the label does not have the same depth as on the 2D/3D hologram label. But the images and text on 2D hologram labels can be very bright and colorful, especially the small font text is very clear.

This type of label is often used by many companies to seal products and authenticate genuine products with the ability to create eye-catching to attract consumers. However, it can be counterfeited easily.

Type 3: 2D/3D hologram labels

The 2D/3D hologram label is made up of multiple layers of two-dimensional images with the holograms logically placed behind the layers to give the effect of depth of the three-dimensional hologram structure. It gives a very good visual depth between the different layers and the first layer also has a shiny sheen.

Most hologram labels used for sealing and anti-counterfeiting are made with this 2D 3D technology. It is suitable for pharmaceutical, dietary supplement and cosmetic industries because this technology has been widely used for more than 20 years and offers good security features and good results. To achieve a good 3D effect, we can do some designs with very good depth in the background or create a floating effect. Although the label has good security, it can still be counterfeited by sophisticated copying technologies.

Type 4: Dot-matrix holographic labels

Dot-matrix holographic labels (Dot-matrix hologram labels) allow unlimited execution of computer-controlled points and laser-engraved dots in three-dimensional images. This hologram is the result of a design consisting of many small dots, where each dot is a separate diffraction grating. They have a maximum resolution of 10 micrometers per optical element and are manufactured on specialized machines that make spoofing difficult and expensive. To design optical elements, several algorithms are used to shape scattered radiation patterns. Dot-matrix hologram anti-counterfeiting labels can have a variety of motion, flip, zoom, and more.

Type 5: E-beam holographic label

The e-beam hologram is created by using a very complex and very expensive electron beam lithography system. This type of technology can produce three-dimensional images on surfaces with resolutions up to 0.1 micrometer (254.000 dpi). This technique requires the development of different algorithms for designing optical elements that shape scattered radiation patterns. This type of hologram provides features like four laser view at a single point, transition effect, 3D effect, hidden image, laser readable text and true color image, etc.

So far, not many countries own and not many factories can produce E-beam hologram labels, so it is difficult to counterfeit this label. This is the technology used for hologram anti-counterfeit label products developed by Tin Dan.

How many shapes does a hologram label have ?

Hologram labels exist in many different shapes and colors. Depending on the identification characteristics of the label, we call the hologram label by characteristics and color, which can be mentioned as:

7 color label.

Silver hologram label.

– Transparent hologram label or transparent hologram decal.

– Blue hologram label.

– Yellow hologram label.

– Purple hologram label.

– Green hologram label.

– Red hologram label, etc.

Uses of hologram labels

The uses of hologram labels

Hologram labels are versatile with many uses and provide a cost-effective way to protect, authenticate or advertise products. It’s customizable, authentic, and hard to replicate. So it is used regularly by many big companies in the world.

Hologram labels are a flexible way to tag, track and trace, protect and confirm the identity of your products and documents such as computer equipment, food, drugs and confidential documents. Here are the most common uses:

1. Security and anti-counterfeiting

It is specially designed to highlight when an impact tries to remove the label from the goods, making the label secure on the product. Various designs are available, including:

– Leaves honeycomb design when peeled off.

– Leaves arrays with irregular shapes when removed.

– Another layer of label will be exposed when peeled off.

2. Protect your business’s brand

Counterfeiters always pay attention to famous brands. Hologram anti-counterfeit labels provide a convenient and safe way to protect your products. Holograms are made to be unique to your brand, making it very difficult to fake.

3. Help attract eyes and increase business revenue

Hologram labels are suitable for many different types of packaging and are good for advertising because they are easy to see and stand out. It can be sealed on boxes, bags or on product packaging.

4. Enhance brand value

In fact, products using hologram anti-counterfeit labels are always easier to identify than other anti-counterfeit labels. This will help increase brand value for the business.

5. Verification

Authentication on hologram anti-counterfeit labels can be based on visible security features on the label and some features with the help of specialized equipment. It can also be combined with other anti-counterfeiting technologies to enhance security for labels such as can be combined with the sms system for authentication by syntax messaging through the sms switchboard.

6. Product traceability

The hologram label can help trace the origin of the product with the qr code on it.

7. Use as hologram warranty label

In some cases, it is used as a warranty label, so we call it a hologram warranty label. This is a combination of hologram labels and sms switchboard system. On the hologram warranty label, there will be a series of covered warranty numbers. When you need to activate or check the product warranty, you only have to scratch the coating to get the warranty number and text message in an easy and fast way.

How are hologram labels created ?

The printing of hologram labels has been well known because of the long-standing, popular and cheap printing technology. Therefore, there is a misunderstanding that all anti-counterfeiting labels use printing technology. However, that’s not the case. Currently there are many ways to create hologram labels besides printing hologram labels. We can mention such as label engraving, lamination, film lamination and transfer technology. In there:

– Hologram label engraving is divided into laser engraving, e-beam engraving.

– Lamination of hologram film on top of a label material, then the hologram film will be the second layer after the plastic film protecting the label.

– Film grafting is combining the hologram part with another material, then the hologram label will consist of 2 separate parts: one containing the hologram, the other part can be a paper material with other information.

Transfer technology is to transfer the hologram film between layers of materials, then the hologram layer will be the middle layer, not the second layer like lamination. Transfer technology is often applied to anti-counterfeiting packaging. Hologram film will be part of product packaging.

Tin Dan's hologram anti-counterfeiting label

Hologram label products developed by Tin Dan are all applied hologram e-beam technology for production. This is a super product of security technology that is extremely difficult to copy and is protected exclusively by the IHMA association around the world.

E-beam hologram technology is completely different from conventional laser engraving. It is made up of low resolution laser technology for decoration. The e-beam uses a microscopic stream of electrons generated by a computer and precisely controlled through special devices. These electron streams strike magnetic molecules on the silicon wafer to create extremely high-resolution refractive etchings. Not only does it create a unique reflective effect, but it also creates very complex hidden security spots.

E-beam technology also closely combines 2D/3D imaging technology of 2D/3D hologram labels, multi-layer matrix imaging technology of dot-matrix hologram labels and spectral imaging technology. The line of hologram labels also requires a very high degree of magnetic field control during production. With the same set of equipment but in different environments will produce different hologram labels.

Because the security Tin Dan hologram has a high difficulty, the equipment is also very sophisticated and more expensive. Tin Dan (TDN) is the first company in Vietnam to produce high-tech holograms applied to security products in Vietnam such as anti-counterfeiting labels, film, high-tech hologram seals, etc.
